Introduction

It is very hard to imagine today’s modern world without the computer that plays an
important role in everybody’s life - has become a source of entertainment and makes the
work much easier and less time consuming. Besides the advantages of using a computer,
there is a significant disadvantage of using it – environmental impact for manufacturing a
computer. According to the survey report of the United Nations University (UNU),
Tokyo, government incentives are quickly needed worldwide to take necessary steps or
procedures in extending the life of personal computers and also slow the growth rate of
their production.
The Problem
Even though the computers have evolved over the last decade (by becoming compact and
more powerful), their environmental impacts are also increasing at a brisk pace. With the
materials and energy intense production, increasing use of PC’s worldwide, plus the rapid
rate at which they are discarded for newer pc machines, are adding up to growing
mountains of garbage. This causes depletion of natural resources, and environmental
pollution, thus contributing significantly to climate change.
