According to Confucius, "Learning without reflection is a complete waste. Reflection without learning is lethal". By the virtue of this assignment, I have delved deeper into the punishments like capital treatment and life imprisonments which is also inflicted on young children because of their involvement in the crime. I feel this requires to be re-thought and analysed since there are many things hidden in the plain sight. Life imprisonment is a law of sentence by the virtue of which convicted individual will remain in the prison for their entire natural lives. This is an indefinite sentence until pardoned. Major reason for which individual receive life sentence are torture, murder, child abuse, terrorism that can lead to espionage, rape, drug trafficking, treason, fraud, human trafficking, financial crimes and fraud. In last decade, it is a sad plight that juvenile offenders were categorised with the same standards as well as sanctions of the adult offenders. There is indeed, a long history of juvenile sentence that can date us back to Middle Ages. There were numerous ways on how the law deals with juvenile offenders for the time-span that is fundamentally unethical. This is because more than 70% of children in juvenile detention actually suffer from issues of mental health. Therefore, these adolescents and young children are very easy to frame in an anger outrage or perhaps make them as an accomplist in a crime which they didn’t commit.
As per the jurisdiction, a minor or a juvenile is a person who has committed a crime yet he/she falls below the adult age of 21 years. In the year 2012, the supreme court shared a decree that if juvenile has committed a major crime like rape, murder or abduction then because of the age he/she wouldn’t be sentenced to death or even spend his life in prison.
