Rationale Presentation skills are required in many situations where a manager needs to explain to other managers (or team members) the content and or impact of new initiatives, new procedures or policy and policy implementation decision. Communication skills are the number one employability skill for all employers surveyed by Graduate Outlook Australia (2014) and this includes both oral and written communication skills. Also note it is plagiarism if sources are not correctly acknowledged whether in essays, reports OR oral presentations, so be careful to do this when you speak and on visual materials used. Task Students are expected to prepare slides (maximum of 10 ie one slide per minute which is a good rule to follow for any presentation) showing the significant issues from their population and needs analysis report. This material is to be presented to the class clearly and concisely in a way that enables other class members to understand the selected issues. Each student should ensure the presentation is 10 minutes, this will require practice. Online students will present their presentations on ZOOM. Criteria You will be assessed on the following: • Oral communication skills eg clear and concise, logical order, engaging the audience with points made, eye contact, pace, facial expression, body language, modulated voice, clearly heard, limited reliance on cue cards and power point, not reading from notes, questioning and responsive to questions observing time limit. • Visual presentation and conceptual thinking skills eg argument (rationale) visually presented and logically ordered e.g. background, body, conclusions), visually consistency, clear and to the point, correct grammar and spelling, easy to read e.g. font 20 minimum, ,correct acknowledgement of all sourced e.g. page ref for quotes and sources under table/ graphs etc, use of handouts and other props. • Conceptual (thinking) skills e.g. shows how experience relates to management theory, evidence referenced to appropriate e-journals, accurate content knowledge relevant and up to date, evaluates information and makes recommendations for change. Resources The task will be discussed in tutorials before the presentations begin. Students will be taken through the assessment criteria and examples considered in the tutorial.
