Introduction
The aging populace in the U.S. is rising quickly. A huge percentage of healthcare expenditure
originates from inpatient hospital expenses. There is an inordinate apprehension that our present
structure will not be capable to supply an adequate labor force, cover expenses, and meet the
requirements of the old population. As this emerges, the change of healthcare will change from
the bedside into the public and from physician-based facilities to nurse-based amenities. As this
change in healthcare will occur, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics plans the nursing profession
is expected to get more than two million job openings in future and may become one of the top
ten professions predictable to be filled in the approaching years. (ANA Issue Brief).
Today’s patients are hospitalized for shorter periods of time and which means hospitals are
employing nurses who are specifically trained in the type of care dictated by these types of
patients. Healthcare restructuring is concentrating on a preventive care model with facilities
being delivered in the public. As the changeover is taking place, the nurse will be well matched
for offering pre-emptive care in the public. The change from hospital to the public expects that
assets for a range of care in hospitals, offices, and other community-based situations will require
growing to meet this requirement in the coming years (Ministry of Health, 2005)
