Social stratification is the term that is being suggested by the sociologists that describes the social standing. Kwiek have discussed that the social stratification refers to the category of the society. The society is categorized based on individual’s socioeconomic factors such as their wealth accumulation, income, education, race and power a person holds in the society. Generally, there are four main types of distinguishing the social system, which are slavery, estate, caste and social class. Further, it can be elaborated that it is the process through which an individual or groups are ranked in a more enduring hierarchy or status.

Caste system and class system are two different parts of the social stratification. John have further elaborated that caste system is one of the aspect of the social standing which is based on status and birth of a person, whereas the class system is open and with the personal achievement and gatherings such as wealth, income, education and the occupation of the person.
