Concept of a Family:
Family is the basic unit of a society which consists of two parents who rear their own children. In bigge
r families we can see grandparents, uncles’ aunts and cousins staying together which is also called a s a joint family. Family is also defined as the group of people who live together and is bound by likeness or consanguinity. Family as such is responsible for the safety, wellbeing and security of its members for good upbringing.
Different types of families that exists around the world are namely:
· Nuclear family consisting of two parents and their children.
· Single parent family comprises of one of the parent with the children.
· Extended family is the one where two or more adults stay together with their children in the society.
· Childless family consists of only the couples devoid of kids.
· Stepfamily comprises of kids from different marriages staying together. here two families merge into one.
· Grandparent family, which consists of the grandparents who takes care and rears their grandchildren instead of their own parents.
As per the structural functionalist, each parameter of the family caters as a function and are crucial for the existence of the family, whereas on the other hand the conflict theorists describe a family in a way...
