QUESTION#1:Officer Susie Que is a rookie police officer, and her field training officer (FTO) is Corporal Billy Boswell. It is 2:15 a.m., and they receive a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) that a child was abducted 5 minutes ago from a house 10 blocks away from them. There were two men in a vehicle, and they apparently chloroformed the 2-year-old child. When the parents heard the commotion and came into the child’s room, they saw through the window two men driving off.

There were not many cars on the road, and when Corporal Boswell saw two men in a car coming from the direction of the abduction, he pulled them over. He ordered both men out of the car and told Officer Que to pat down the driver while he patted down the passenger. Officer Que initially hesitated, but when the corporal told her to do it a second time, she did. Officer Que discovered a concealed gun. Corporal Boswell then ordered the driver to open the trunk, and when the driver refused, he told Officer Que to take the keys and open it. She did, and they discovered the child.

In the incident involving Officer Que and Corporal Boswell, do you feel either officer acted improperly? Give specific reasons to justify your answer. In your response, please consider each of the officer’s roles in the incident and the information set they acted upon. What impacts were realized based upon their decision making?

Answer1:
As per me Corporal Boswell acted properly as he got the information of be on the lookout and managed to catch hold of the vehicle that they were looking for with the alleged
baby who was being kidnapped by these two men. But I feel instead of Boswell asking his lady assistant Susie to frisk and check for arms with the kidnappers, he could have reversed the role with her and did the same himself as being a lady officer, she is not entitled to frisk and check a male. Though many would say that at the time of the work and heat of the moment many would not keep this in their mind, but as per law this is important as a male should only frisk a male. The assistant was correct in taking the orders of her superior in frisking the men and finding the concealed gun also taking the keys to open the trunk and discover the small child. Boswell was right to frisk the male driver but as per the norms he should have done it himself and asked Susie to point the gun at them from a distance. Though the rules many contradict but I feel the kidnapping of the child has been averted, which is the most important outcome from this incident.
Answer 2:
A gratuity is to gift something to another person based only of their occupation and position. Gratuity to a policeman can be a cup of coffee in a cafe, half priced meal or something given as a gift because of the position of the police officer. Police gratuities have always been an ethical concern in policing. Generally, it is seen that all police departments and offices has a policy on accepting gifts and gratuities for the officers and the department as a whole. Many police departments allow certain things to be taken as gratuities if it is meant for the whole department and not only for a specific. There are many other police departments where even a cup of tea is not allowed to be taken by virtue of being in the position. (Pollock, 2007).
Each police department and office has to determine the best...
