Essay prompt Throughout the term, from multiple angles, we have discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic is NOT an equalizer that affects us all in the same way, rather it exacerbates pre- existing and current crises. We have analyzed different aspects of the pandemic from prisons (Davis, Maynard and Piché, Foucault, or Wacquant) to disability (Wong or Ginsburg, Mills, and Rapp), from addiction (Alexander) to LTCHs (Wherry). Pick one current large issue that we have discussed during the term (e.g., systemic racism, the carceral state, SGBV, structural violence, surveillance capitalism, disability, etc.) and one specific aspect of that issue (note: topics from each class, for instance, prisons, LTCHs, the Internet and social media, addiction) of the pandemic. Describe as best as you can what the general problem is (connect the large issue with the specific aspect) and how it is connected to the COVID-19 pandemic (for instance, connecting structural violence and institutional neglect at LTCHs). Analyze who the central social actors are in this particular problem. Then, propose one (1) state intervention (at any level: Federal, Provincial or Municipal) to lessen the problem/crisis you have chosen to analyze. Support your answer with two examples from the readings, movies or issues discussed in the group presentations. Please only consider Canada and preferably write on Long term care homes.
