Introduction
The strategic concept of nuclear deterrence theory is advocating the principle of ‘first user’, means states or countries reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in case of any kind of armed attack. Nuclear weapons are allowed to use in self-defence when a country or state’s dignity or position is at the risk, or when nuclear weapons pose threat to vital security interests of a country or nation. Possession of nuclear weapons is viewed as a strong bargaining tool in the arena of international relations, as countries or states are using it as a diplomacy tool for moulding situations in their favour (Thompson, 2014).
Will nuclear deterrence theory continue to remain stable throughout the 21st century?
On virtual ground, it could be said that strategic concept of nuclear deterrence theory holds strong foothold and profound importance in allowing states or countries enjoying dominant position in international relations. The developed nations, like UK, are also pioneering in maintaining and restoring nuclear arsenals in order to strengthen their position on world’s map. Even though, countries are forming coalition and series of agreements for preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. In May 2010, NPT Review Conference was conducted where several states agreed on a series of action plans to revitalise the treaty of reducing usage of nuclear weapons (Shultz and Goodby, James 2015).
