The NO Gratuity Policy:
There is a policy for the law enforcement officers and the people and most importantly for the policy
officers, known as the No gratuity policy. This means that no officers will accept gratuities in any form. The officers are also strictly prohibited to ask for price discounts or even misuse their position to get free gratuities form people or the market place. Gratuities in a way increase the chances of ethical issue in democratic policing. These days this is even considered as a positional advantage among many police officers to get free food and other stuffs as gratuities.
This also makes a psychological shift in the police officers to focus more and spend more time with people or entities who actually give gratuities and hence the thin line between democratic policing and ethics gets violated. Police are professionals and hence cannot take gratuities or else the general public would expect preferential treatments from the police and hence gratuities erode faith, trust and public confidence. The slippery slope for such act or behaviour should be properly monitored so that they do not become serious immoral behavior and hence lead to a crime.
