Question 1: The Reasons to Enter Into a Career in Nursing
Nursing is considered to be the honorable career option. The career which will allow me to help the people and save their lives, it also brings cheers and comfort to them who are in need. In terms of the joy, the nursing career is very gratifying and rewarding. Some of the reasons which make me chose nursing as the career option are listed below:
Job security is very high:
As per me, nursing can be an exciting career as it has a lot of offers in it. The level of mortality is low all the time and the invention of new technologies is brightening the medical field, so the careers of health care are booming. Demand for this job is very high with great job opportunities, so no worry of job security (Beck, 2000).
The difference can be bought in someone’s life:
Me as a nurse can get to about the actual value of life because I will come across the people those are fighting with life. Every breath taken is the gift of life and no one can know it better than a person who nurses a patient day and night. An individual who has strong values, respect for the human life and concern for others suffering and empathy will be choosing this nursing career and this is the reason I choose this as career option.
Learning can be continuous:
As a nurse, I will get an opportunity for continuous learning with an option to work in various departments in the hospital or can serve as a medical assistant or can get into the field of nursing management where I will get chance to develop new nurses and can share knowledge. By taking an initiative and concern a significant impact on the health care can be made. For a career to be continually challenging nursing can be the ideal one and also knowledge can be gained with respect to the human body, the various diseases, and the challenges of life and much more (Jirwe & Rudman, 2012).
Even during recession jobs will be in safe zone:
Even during the times of economic downturn or recession, I think there is no evidence that nurses have lost their jobs. Hospitals have to still function and also the health care investments should be continued. The job is secured all the time, even during recession periods (Kohn & Truglio-Londrigan, 2007).
Question 2: Public and/Or Personal Understandings of Nursing
The following are the reasons why public and personal understandings have influenced my choice of making nursing as a career option:
Personal:
As per me, choosing nursing as the career option will open up many varied opportunities for a job and also, in turn, many different paths can be chosen in the course of the career. There are not many career options which will allow me to this kind of varied job opportunities. In addition to this, job security is always there irrespective of the situations. Even as per my research this career options comes with fairly good wages, an atmosphere is challenging, and a high chance of learning new things, and can grow in different paths of career (Marsland, Robinson & Murrells, 1996). It is a fast paced and the individual should be energetic and active and should have the skills of multi-tasking and should be able to manage the priorities if they are opting for this nursing career. I think I have these strengths and I should opt for this career. There is high demand for these jobs. A significant growth is being experienced in this field so i can be here in reaping the growth and also the opportunities for learning. The information that is extremely sensitive is shared with the nurses as they trust them and it has to be confidentially maintained (Buerhaus et al., 2005).
Public:
Without any doubt, nursing profession is embedded with the important aspects of independence and the responsibility. The profession demands the responsibilities which are very true as per the principle of being the nurse is to provide care and comfort. For a patient, a nurse is the manager, educator and also the advocate. So from the public viewpoint the things that have influenced me in taking nursing as the career option are- though the patient have knowledge regarding the health care and the treatment options (Tomey et al., 1996), it is quite obvious that any analysis that a nurse does cannot be carried on their own without their presence in the situation for example in the case of admission in hospital interaction with the nurse is required. Hence, the public is updated only little over the professional’s developments in the nursing practices so they are required. Therefore, as per the public view nursing means caring for the people who are in pain. According to the public, nurse is the one who will be assisting the doctor while treatment is going on for the illness and also after that will get involved in providing assistance to the patient by keeping their personal hygiene, guiding them with the medications as per the doctor prescribed, dressing the wounds for the welfare of the patient.
