  • Brainstorm. Try to come up with an engaging idea for this project before you turn on the computer. Consider sketching or outlining potential ideas to help you zero-in on the one that seems the most engaging.

  • Build a working file. Create a new document that is 900 x 600 pixels. Make sure your file is in the RGB color space initially.

  • Complete the project. Your final file must include some original work in Illustrator, at least one pixel image, and some live type.

Project Requirements

  • File specs:900 x 600 pixels.

  • Pixel Image. Import at least one pixel image into your file. If you use this as a background, the image should be sized to fit!

  • Type. Use type someplace in your file.

Delivery

You will turn in three separate files for this project:

  • RGB AI file [Wong_AIfinalRGB.ai]

  • CMYK AI file [Wong_AIfinalCMYK.ai]

  • RGB SVG file [Wong_AIfinal.svg]

Place each of these files into one enclosing folder:

FINAL ASSIGNMENT: VECTOR MADNESS! This assignment is designed to give you the opportunity to work more independently in Illustrator. For this assignment you have two options. Option one: Use Illustrator to create a personal logo. Your file will combine type, simple shapes and a photohraphic background. Option two: Use Illustrator to create a simple character. Your file will include a photographic element and type. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS You can incorporate anything into your work, but make sure to meet these requirements: • Document specs: Your working .ai file should be RGB; 900 x 600 pixels. • Use type in your file in some interesting way. • Place a background pixel image in the document • 3 Final files. You will submit three separate files for this project. • 1 native AI file in RGB • 1 native AI file in CMYK for print • 1 RGB SVG file for screen BUILDING THE FILE Brainstorm. Spend some time researching and/or sketching; have fun and let your imagination guide you! You should have a concrete idea of what you want to create before you even look at your computer. Create a working file. Open Illustrator. Go to File>New and create a new web document that is 900 x 600. Name and save this file as Lastname_Firstname_aifinal.ai. Create the main content [logo or character]. Be sure to use simple closed paths that will be easy to stroke and fill. Experiment with gradients and patterns to make your work distinctive. yummy! PED RO OR TIZ V isual m edia designer 138 Visual Media Design 105 > Digital Skills for Visual Media HELPFUL TIPS Save your document frequently as you work—you may want to save a construction file, with all your creature parts, and a final file with the illustration fully composed and colored. Work from a sketch. Many of your designs will start as a rough sketch. Feel free to use that as a template to generate the final artwork. Create closed paths! Closed paths are easy to stroke and fill. Experiment with the various Pathfinders to learn about how they can help you create complex objects from simple shapes. Unite is useful for combining separate shapes; MinusFront is useful for knocking holes out of larger shapes. Consider animation. You will be animating these files in the next section of the class. Think ahead to how this will work as you build these files. FINAL STEPS Review your work. Step back and assess the quality of your work. Have you satisfied all the project requirements? Are your creatures well constructed—do objects/points join cleanly? Are your color choices effective? Make sure to delete any extraneous paths from your final file. Turn in your final files. You will turn in three separate files for this project: • Native RGB AI file [Lastname_AIfinalRGB.ai] • Native CMYK AI file [Lastname_AIfinalCMYK.ai] • RGB SVG file [Lastname_AIfinal.svg] Place each of these files into one folder named like so: Lastname- Firstname-AIFinal. Archive and Backup. Store a copy of this assignment to your thumbdrive or online storage area. You will need these files at the end of the semester so don’t misplace them! FINISH UP AND SUBMIT £ Submit the file to your instructor in the method that they prefer. This may be to the class server or to Canvas. Ask your instructor if you are unsure. Hope you enjoyed this project!
