Purpose:


The purpose of this assessment is for students to discuss the importance of counsellors’ receptiveness when applying ethically-informed and culturally responsive counselling practices when working with clients from multicultural backgrounds. Students are required to demonstrate knowledge of ethical and culturally responsive counselling practice, and how this knowledge is applied to the five-stage model of counselling.

Students are to write an essay to discuss the importance of counsellors’ receptiveness when applying ethically-informed and culturally responsive counselling practices when working with clients from multicultural backgrounds.

Introduction
    Ethics are a set of moral principles that regulates a person's behavior and mannerisms. Even if a human is not a professional, he or she needs to c
onduct him or herself a certain way in the society, as per a moral compass. Similarly, while being a professional also, he or she needs to conduct him or herself a certain way, as per the moral principles directed by the industry. Ethics are aan important factor to be taken care of on any profession. The wood ethics is derived from the Greek word “ethos”, which literally translated as “eat of living”. Ethics is a category of philosophy which deals with individualconduct and behavior in a society.
Ethical Counseling Practices
    Ethics in counseling are recommended standard of conduct based on moral compass and professional values (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2020). Ethics in counselling is doing what is best for the client as well as the counsellor himself or herself. Ethics comprises of personal moral qualities and key ethical guidelines. Let's briefly discuss the moral qualities a counsellor most possess in order to be ethical:
· Empathy – The ability to understand a client's feelings and thoughts from their perspective.
· Integrity – Being honest to their profession and the client exuding strong moral qualities.
· Humility – Awareness and acknowledgement of one's own weaknesses.
· Resilience –The potential of recovering from difficulty with grace and strength.
· Competence –The ability to perform any given task or responsibility with utmost efficiency.
The key ethical parameters in order to become an ethical counselor ate as follows –
· Maintenance of Confidentiality – It is extremely crucial for a counsellor to maintain his or her client’s information confidential. If at all under any circumstances a counsellor need to disclose certain client information, it must be only on court orders or as a last resort in order to save the client from hurting themselves or others.
· Not exceeding competence – A counsellor most never counsellor a client in an area which is not his or her area of expertise. It will only affect the quality of service the counsellor provides (Fiske, Henningsen & Buyx, 2019).
· A Big No to Dual Relationships – A counsellor is strongly and firmly adviced not to initiate any kind of relationship with their client apart from the professional one. Initiating relationship other than professional may resist their opinions and ability to deliver quality services.
