Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment is for students to discuss the importance of counsellors’ receptiveness when applying ethically-informed and culturally responsive counselling practices when working with clients from multicultural backgrounds. Students are required to demonstrate knowledge of ethical and culturally responsive counselling practice, and how this knowledge is applied to the five-stage model of counselling.
Process:
Students are to write an essay to discuss the importance of counsellors’ receptiveness when applying ethically-informed and culturally responsive counselling practices when working with clients from multicultural backgrounds.
Throughout the essay, students are required to support their ideas with relevant academic sources of literature. All referencing should be done in accordance with APA 7thEdition.
To complete the essay, you will:1. Write an introduction to the essay.2. Define: a)ethical counselling practiceand b)culturally responsive counselling practice.3. Discuss the relationship between ethical and culturally responsive counselling. Provide examples to illustrate what this looks like in practice.4. Identify and evaluate how the five ethical principles in counselling practice (justice, beneficence, non-maleficence, respect for autonomy, fidelity) are integral to the five-stage model (empathic relationship; story and strengths; goals; restory; action).5. Evaluatehowandwhythese elements are foundational to multicultural counselling and interviewing.6. Write a conclusion to your essay.
