Purpose
The prupose of the body paragraphs of an essay is to develop the main point delivered in the thesis statement. You already drafted a thesis statement in which you clearly state your opinion about the power of advertising. It is now time to persuade your reader to accept your opinion and start thinking about advertising in a different way modeled by you.
Task
After reviewing your chosen ad, in a minimum of three paragraphs analyze its rhetorical effects and appeals. To do that, ask yourself three overarching questions:
1. How does the ad draw in the target audience by helping them identify with the ad's problematic situation or story? - build upon/draw from the paragraph you wrote last week on analyzing the audience
2. How does the ad create a field of values, beliefs, and aspirations that serve as windows into a more fulfilled life? - write one paragraph in which you focus on analyzing the appeals of pathos and/or ethos
3. How do the ad's images and words work together to create the desired persuasive effect? - analyze the printed text or lyrics of the song/narrative used in the ad
Keep in mind that the purpose of writing these paragrpahs is to develop the already drafted thesis statement; therefore, all analysis in the paragraphs should further explain the point you made in the thesis.
Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence in which you make a claim about the appeal/audience you are analyzing, and then include at least three examples form the ad that illustrate the claim you made in the topic sentence. Add analysis to each example, exaplining how it fulfills the purpose of the ad.
The ad I chose was -Dos Equis: The Most Interesting Man in the World
