Purpose: Applying for a job can be one of the most important things you do to influence your future economic stability. Peer feedback on job application materials will help you minimize errors and maximize potential in terms of your employ-ability. This peer review will help you grow more accustomed to that process of giving and receiving feedback on cover letters and resumes.
Task: (adapted fromBBG) Locate a description for a job in a field that you are interested in. Working with that job description and your own experience, draft a cover letter and a resume that respond to the individual qualifications listed.
Requirements
1. Upload your cover letter and resume as separate documents. Theresumeshould be like a one-page list or outline of your skills and qualifications. Thecover lettershould be addressed to a specific individual or group (HR manager, hiring committee) and will take the form of a one- to two-page document that shows your interest in the job and how your qualifications match the job description. Remember to ask for an interview as part of the cover letter.
Hint: look at the templates for cover letters and resumes that are found in Microsoft Word for ideas.
2. Enclose the job description as part of your submission, either as a hyperlink if it is posted online, or as a copy if it is in print.
