DRAFT Childhood Development PSYCH/500 I will need in-text citations and at least 3 references keep in current format. Each section under the bold heading will need to be expanded upon and include an in-text citation (two to three sentences). There are 2 bold headings that need complete information for them. Also, please look at each stage from a biopsychosocial and cognitive perspective so my draft will need some tweaking. I will need this back by Friday, February 8 at 9am eastern. Also, please see three questions towards the bottom that is due on Wednesday. Thanks Childhood Development Human development, and growth process is a complex web of interconnecting mechanism that makes up each individual. 1. What are some different approaches to addressing the problem of bullying,
victimization, and school violence? (250 words)

Broadly, there are two approaches to preventing bullying, victimization and the
resultant school violence that occurs. These are preventative and responsive. The methods
employed are different for dealing with those who are bullying and those who have been
bullied, or are likely to be so. In terms of prevention, those who are likely to bully need to
have the source of these behaviors identified.
In many cases, bullying is a consequence of either problems in the life of the bully ort
social pressure, and by exposing and dealing with these problems and pressure the likelihood
of bullying can be reduced. Having bullied someone, the bully must not be punished directly,
but instead counselled. This is because punishment does not lead to a change of behavior -
consider the fact that prisons do not reduce recidivism and reoffence, whereas rehabilitation
does.
For victims, prior to bullying they must be encouraged to talk about the situations in
which they are feeling stigmatized, and to work through these situations. Once bullying has
occurred, the problem becomes revealing the bullying, since the principal issue is a code of
silence that protects perpetrators.
Another method is simply to encourage victims to not react to the bullying, and for
those performing punitive actions to do so in a formal rather than emotive manner, thus
removing the emotional content of the actions which often foster the behaviour. The
problems can also be addressed by teaching assertiveness to those likely to be bullied,
making them far less likely to be singled out. Finally, careful supervision of situation in
which bullying is likely to occur is important.
