Proteins are folded chains of amino acids. All the proteins in living organisms are made up of only 20 different amino acids. Show that there are 400 different ways to make a string of two amino acids, and 8000 different ways to make a string of three amino acids. How many different ways are there to make a string of 10 amino acids? Do you see why the number of proteins that living organisms can make is practically countless?
