Project Planning and Control Assessment 2: Resit 2017 This assessment aims to test your understanding of the project management calculations which are included in the course. You should therefore not use specialist project management software (e.g. MS Project) to complete this assessment. Ideally you would complete the assessment using Excel or another similar software package. In completing your assessment ensure that you demonstrate your thought process and include the relevant equations to demonstrate your calculation process. Scenario You are working as the project manager on a clinical trial to investigate the impact of a new drug treatment for cancer. The initial phase of implementing this clinical trial involves three core tasks: · Identifying sites where the clinical trial will occur, assessing these sites for suitability and arranging contracts with these sites. · Developing the central database which will be used to record data obtained from the clinical trial sites. · Developing a plan for assessing the data – the Statistical Analysis Plan. At an initial project team meeting the work breakdown structure had been developed along with the core dependencies between tasks (note: unless otherwise stated all dependencies are finish-start (FS) dependencies). Since this meeting resource requirements have been identified for the tasks. The output from this early planning process is shown in the attached spreadsheet (sheet: Initial Plans). Task 1: Develop the Gantt chart for this project, and in doing so identify any activity float and the critical path. (30%) Task 2: Assuming that the spending of resource is linear across an activity (i.e. if an activity costs £400 and lasts 4 weeks then the cost/week would be £100) develop the S-Curve for this project. (20%) Task 3: You have been supplied progress information for week 18 of the project. This is shown in the spreadsheet attached to the assignment Based upon this data: · Make an assessment of each activity and indicate each activities time and budget schedule. · Estimate the final overall cost of each project activity and the overall cost for this phase of the project. · Estimate the final timescale for this phase of the project. In making your estimates ensure that you highlight any assumptions that you have used.
