Project management is best learnt through the observation of actual projects. This assignment comprises developing a Project Management Plan (PMP) for a construction project that is either (1) specified by the teaching staff, or (2) chosen by you AND approved by the teaching staff. This is a group assignment and student groups are required to approach one or more professional and/or commercial organisations involved in the construction industry, and document and analyze one of their projects either under development or completed. Whether this project is under development or has been completed, you are required to assume that the project is at the completion of the initiation phase and that, therefore, you are preparing a PMP for the client of the project (i.e. not for the contractor of the project). You should use your collected information to help you understand the clients requirements for the project. Your group is required to write a fully referenced and well structured PMP of the project in the format of a professional report. A letter on vUWS may be used to obtain permission from the organisation(s). A PMP integrates and consolidates all of the subsidiary management plans and baselines from the planning processes. Your PMP should include: Project Baselines including: o Schedule baseline, o Cost baseline, and o Scope baseline. and SubsidiaryPlans including: o Scope management plan, o Schedule management plan, o Cost management plan, The use of illustrations such as figures and tables, and other graphical information is encouraged to aid in your explanation and enliven your writing as well as to aid in the assessors understanding of the report. You should also use headings (including main and sub-headings) where appropriate to effectively structure and organise the various sections of your report. The words you choose for the main and sub-headings should be able to succinctly reflect what you are trying to express in the various sections of the report. Remember, the report must be written in a logical and systemic format, which can be easily understood for assessment. 6 You may use the following outline as a guide for the writing of your report. You may adapt or change the words and/or add more main and sub-headings to suit your report. Executive Summary Table of Contents Introduction Project Baselines Project Subsidiary Plans Conclusion As well as content and structure, referencing correctly is equally important. Your report does not have to be overly referenced. However, the source of the information referred to in your report should be made clear. You must adopt the Harvard style for referencing.
