Project 2: Design a Product
DUE OCTOBER 31 AT 2:00 PM. You don't need to do any outside research to complete this project. You can use your textbook and class notes and turn in a perfect project.
Put your name on the cover page or you will lose points.
Design a new, original product to be used by parents and/or children (from 6 months to 4 years of age). Be creative and innovative! The aim of this assignment is to present an argument that defends the design of your product based on psychological research.
Your product should have 4 distinct features based on scientific evidence and representing 4 of the main topics covered over the course of the semester.
Structure of paper
What is the product? (5%)
What age group is it for? (5%)
Presentation of each of 4 primary features
In this case a “feature” refers to an actual function of the object that you are inventing. What does it do? (2.5% per feature; total of 4 features)
Why is this feature beneficial or age-appropriate? (10% per feature; total of 4 features)
What is the empirical evidence to support this claim? (10% per piece of evidence; total of 4 pieces of evidence)
An example of a well-designed product is the “Boppy” pillow. An example of a poorly designed product is a crying-contingent mobile.
IMPORTANT
: if you design the product first and work backwards to try to find evidence, you will make the project much harder for yourselves. Start with course material and think about how it can inform a product.
