Managing Project Changes Why is change management a necessary component of project management? Consider the given case study, critically analyse and identify key issues that could lead to any necessary changes in the project. What processes or strategies do you think would work best to perform the identified change requests from the case study? Part B: Change Control Based upon the given case study, in groups or as an individual, develop a report on change control. In the report:1. Identify changes required for the case study. Ans1. Process of change control is crucial in managing any project successfully. By the virtue of this process all the request to change the project baseline that is already approved are captured,
summarized, evaluated and then scrutinized for final approval or rejection or are delayed. As observed in the case of Blue Spider, Gary was unable to manage the changes that were taking place in the project both at technical and administrative front. Each change had particular significance and had consequential effects since it was not well captured, evaluated and scrutinized by the Program manager. There were many changes required in the case study in order for the project to successful. I have analyzed these changes and their impact on scope, time, cost, quality of the project and the techniques used to manage them.
Applying the concept of Triple constraints in order to analyze how the project is managed in the Triple Spider Project.
· Cost – Factor of cost that is also referred, as budget of the project are financial limitations of the project
· Scope - The task that is assigned to fulfill the objective of the project
· Time- The defined schedule for different part of the project to be completed such the overall completion of project and its deliverables are achieved.
Essentially, there was no defined objective, plan of milestones or responsibility chart framed out to attain the Blue Spider. Therefore, we can identify tremendous lack of priorities, major communication gaps, weak support and cooperation from other functional departments. Changing the scope of effort - Gary and Paul had change the scope of effort in order to make the test matrix successful for Lord. Other staff members of the project were suddenly informed to handle the administration work and were asked to conduct weekly team meetings. The new test matrix produced good results after effort of 4 weeks and Gary with his team developed workable schedule.
This change in the middle of the project consumed a lot of time of the team especially Gary who worked on preparing the technical handouts as well.
Output of these changes were terrible as the customers were unaware of the last moment and sudden variations in the scope. Also, greater...
