Organization Background
Grinder & Mills is a well-known and respected coffee shops Company located at the business hub of Central Michigan. Currently, Grinder & Mills has two outlets open to the public: In the Meridian Mall situated in Okemos on the lower ground floor and the busy Jackson Crossing in Jackson at the upper floor. Grinder & Mills shops are also located near offices, campuses and public parks fantastic for customers in need for coffee breaks and bites. We envision an expansion towards Western Michigan and Upper Peninsula in the Westshore and Copper Country Malls, in the next three years.
Our major marketing strategy is our proximity around shopping malls aimed at targeting shopping lovers with an edge for coffee taste. The advantage of locating at the heart of the city within popular Malls is fantastic to show caste our organic and flavored coffee drinks and well priced traditional coffee. We also have a vibrant personnel team with seven years experience in a busy coffee making business.

Description of products and services
Grinder & Mills provides first class organic coffee and an option of traditional coffee, other beverages, snacks, and light lunches on our menus. Organic coffee business is part of the Development Initiative and Joint Migration, administered by UNDP and financed by the European Union. The project is aimed at mitigating socio-economic and environmental factors (“Strengthening Organic Coffee Production Chain,” 2012).
Other services offered in our shops include fast ‘Grab & Go’ services to our esteemed customers. Efficient services are made possible through experienced, hospitable personnel, high quality products and modern machinery equipment. To appreciate coffee, the coffee Company notes significant contribution of a coffee barista, the eminence of coffee used, the quality of machinery and what milk products to use.
Sales Literature
Utilizing Information and communication materials like flyers and posters will be distributed in nearby apartments, college campus and institutions, at the malls and in the selected office blocks within two weeks prior to the opening of Grinder & Mills. Management Summary
Grinder & Mills is solely owned by the Cooper family which has a longstanding experience in coffee business. The Managing Director Mr. Doug Connor is a graduate of Master in Business Administration from Stand Ford University. He worked for twenty years as an independent Barista Consultant. In the past, he worked as the Barista Manager at the Fast Coffee Clock Franchise, which still stands. Mr. Connor has widespread business contacts in Canada and Italy that he will influence success of the family’s new business enterprise.
Dr. Lynnette Castle has a Doctorate Degree in human resources from Duke University. She has worked as Human Resource Manager at Grinder & Mills and an independent human resource consultant at People’s First Consultants for the last five years.
Mr. Anthony Brodie is the current supervisor at Grinder & Mills who has a Bachelors Degree in Baristaship. He has successfully trained twenty five baristas over the years and seen them advance their Barista careers.
The three main family members will be involved in the daily management of Grinder & Mills business. Other family members have personal commitments but offer moral, technical and monetary support as occasional consultancy services. However, there is a clear need for part – time baristas ($14,000/yr each) who will be in charge of coffee preparation. An addition of Baristas is to ensure a good shift program to increase efficiency for the permanent Baristas.
Management Team
A full-time team leader will be employed to supervise daily functions at Grinder & Mills Co. Team Leader will be fully accountable for the running of the coffee shops. He/she will make sure brand standards are upheld at all times. He/she will motivate, identify capacity-building areas and inspire the team. He/she will be responsible for creating a fun yet professional working environment. The Team Leader will ensure the business is in not incurring losses through extravagance but will monitor budgets and targets.
Unlike the Human Resource Manager who’s centered on personnel, the Team Leader will be centered on delivering first-rate customer service. He/she will have a qualification and at least three years work experience in a similar managerial position. The ideal candidate will also be responsible of approving acquisitions, raising purchase orders, dealing with suppliers, developing a marketing strategy and perform other daily managerial duties.
