Presentation Guidelines
You will be giving a 10-15 minutes presentation on the article (see attachment) assigned to you (check the presentation schedule on blackboard) and you will lead a discussion based on the three questions you create. Type up a ONE page hand out that highlights the information listed below.
In the oral presentation you should:•Give a brief summary of the article. Do not just reread the article to the class! Narrow your summary to the essential parts of the article (who, what, when, where, why?)•What is the main thesis of the article?•Why is this topic important?•What was done?•What is the social context surrounding the article?•Where does this article fit into this class?•What are the key terms/words used in this piece- are their any key words that match the keywords listed in the syllabus? (do not freak out if they don’t!)•What was the key result? (Implications on practice OR on research activities)•What was left unanswered?•Give your critique of the articleoA critique does not necessarily have to be negative. It should be your analysis on the article. Your thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of the piece.oYou can also discuss parts of the article that you may not have understood.oMaybe you can connect this piece of something you’ve read in another class, something I have lectured about, or something else we have read in this course.oThis is your time to tell the class what you think! In the hand-out you should:•Give an outline of your presentation•Do not make this an essay or a word for work reiteration of your presentation- just give the bare bones of your presentation.•The main thesis, key words, important information•Most importantly you will create THREE discussion questions surrounding the article.
