The videos (below) will help create the correct context for your research in this Module.  It's a good idea to watch the videos before you start any research so that you start your search in the right area.  The videos will provide a general summary of the Module concepts.  Make sure you clarify any terms you are not familiar with, with your tutor before starting your research. Watch the Videos for Module 5 To help you with the topics of Module 5, watch the following videos.  These will help provide context for each of the Module 5 topics:  SWOT Analysis How to Perform a SWOT Analysis GAP Analysis  What is a GAP Analysis? Scenario Analysis  What is Scenario Analysis and why is it at the heart of Risk Management? Porter's 5 Forces Model  Porter's Five Forces Now that you have the context for the Module you can start to investigate the concepts so you and your group can complete the learning activities.  Each of these learning activities has been designed to help you achieve the following Intended Learning Outcomes: Explain how ICT management and governance practices impact technology, people, and organisations. Assess methods of acquisition and provision of ICT Systems in an organisational context. Formulate a strategic plan for integrating ICT Systems that support business needs and objectives. Model the behaviour of an ICT professional in the context of working as part of a team. Module 5 Lecture Slides The Module Slides will be updated after the lecture.  You can find the Module 5 Lecture Slides here: KIT708 Hobart Week 7 Module 5 2019.pptx  During the lecture, you will participate in the TED Talk Debate. Watch this TED Talk Each module we will watch the TED Talk video in the lecture.  It would be helpful for you to take 5 minutes to watch the video before the lecture. You will need to come to the lecture prepared to discuss the following statement: Strategic Planning and Logic: Is this the perfect match? Module 5: Can you solve the pirate riddle? Discussion Before you attend the lecture you will need to come up with one point that agrees with the TED Talk Question for Module 5 and one point that disagrees with the TED Talk Question. What are these points? TED Talk Debate This assignment is worth 10% of the total assessment for KIT708 ICT Systems Strategy and Management. This is a group assignment however only one team member presents each module. This assessment item assesses your attainment of the following ILO:  4. Model the behaviour of an ICT professional in the context of working as part of a team. Requirement Groups are to prepare a debate response relating to TED Talk Video from each module The group will have 10 minutes to prepare a 60-second response to the TED discussion question in each Module. One member from the group will participate in the debate in front of the class. Groups will be chosen at random. Remember you are being assessed on your communication skills, you need to be able to clearly and concisely explain if you agree or disagree with the topic to the class. Debate responses will be terminated at the 60-second mark. Submission No formal submission required however if a group does not attend the lecture when selected for the debate they will not receive marks for this assessment item for that week. Investigate basic concepts of Tool and techniques for strategic planning Each group member is to choose ONE of the following topics. Students are to research the chosen topic and produce a minimum of 1 page of 'well-referenced' material that clearly defines the topic, explores the strengths and weaknesses or benefits and limitations. Your research needs to be captured in your ePortfolio each week - this will help you with your ePortfolio assessment. SWOT analysis GAP analysis Scenario analysis Porters 5 Forces Model You are to share your research with your group, this will help you to complete your groups answer for Module 5. You will also need to share your research with your group members so that you have the entire context for the module.   Share your Module Research with your Group Members You need to share your research on your Module topic with your group members. To do this, you are to share your research with your group members during the workshop or electronically.  As each member chooses only 1 research topic each module it is important that you share what you have found with the group.  You could also include your research in your ePortfolio for the Module Workshops. As you will be discussing your groups answers to the Module 5 questions you will need to develop some draft answers to the questions so you will be prepared for the discussion and be able to meaningfully contribute to your group.  Make sure you are communicating with your group as agreed so that everyone can be included. Module 5 Case Study In Module 5 we are exploring and evaluating the tools and techniques available to prepare for strategic planning.   Your group has been contracted as ICT consultants for a company who is investing in a new Enterprise Resource System.  The company has several options that they could implement and they need to make a strategic and informed decision.  They had a previous project fail because they did not follow an evidence-based evaluation, they are not going to make the same mistake. Before they start to review the different systems available they have asked your team to justify some of the different analysis tools and techniques available.  The clients have identified the following tools and techniques: SWOT GAP analysis Scenario analysis Porter 5 Forces Model The clients wish to know the strengths of each tool and technique and when you would use each of these. Each Module the group will choose a leader to collate their group's answers, the final group answer should be no more than half a page per tool and technique.  Your briefing note should contain a front page with your teams' detail.  There should be an introductory paragraph outlining the purpose of the briefing note.  The four tools and techniques will be covered in half a page each and you will finish the briefing note with a recommendation for how your client should use these tools and techniques.  You will be a leader for two modules during this semester.  You will need to demonstrate that the submitted briefing note to the client is the result of a group discussion. You must reference your research using the discipline style of Harvard Australian. Please use this guide to help you with the style (https://utas.libguides.com/referencing/Harvard), and ask for help from your tutor as referencing is vitally important to do correctly. The Leader for Module 5 will need to submit their Leaders Report (the group answer for each question) by the day following their workshop at 11:55 pm. Now that you have completed the Module 5 activities you can take the time to update your Module ePortfolio.  Remember this is due on the 23rd of September 2019.  It's great to add to your ePortfolio as you complete your learning tasks and assessments. Update your Module ePortfolio Take this opportunity to update your Module ePortfolio.  You can include any work you have done for your group from this Module.  Examples of what you could upload as contribution could include your individual research or your draft answers to the Module 5 Case Study. Remember that each module one of your group members will be the group leader.  If you are the group leader you will need to participate in the leaders report learning activity during the workshop and submit your leaders report.  Are you your group's leader in Module 5?  Assessment Item 1: Leaders Report - When it is your turn to be your group's leader you will need to submit your leaders report.  To complete this assessment item you will need to: Prepare a report based on your groups’ answers in relation to the Module Workshop Case. The reply to the case needs to be professionally formatted. Your group can choose the style but it must be consistent and professional in appearance. The Group Leader's Duties Each week one member of your group will act as a group leader. You will be group leader twice during the unit (not in concurrent modules). The leader will document the results of the discussion held in the workshop to the workshop case. The leader will prepare a reply to the case detailing the outcomes of the group discussion for the two activities. The role of the Group Leader The leader is responsible for facilitating the group work for that workshop The leader must encourage each of the group members to contribute to discussions in the workshop The leader needs to ensure that each student is consulted in relation to the outcome of the workshop The leader MUST NOT complete the workshop material on their own The leader is a facilitator Submission of the Leaders Report The leader will submit the report no later than 11:55 pm the following day after their workshop via MyLO here. More details about the Leaders Report can be found here. Learning Outcomes The Leaders Report is worth 15% of the total assessment for KIT708 ICT Systems Strategy and Management. Your completed report must be submitted by the due date shown above. This is an individual assignment.
