I. Executive Summary
The following report is a critical analysis of the Volkswagen case. It provides the insight of the organization functioning in context of the existence of the transparency and conduction of business with ethics. It provides the information about the Volkswagen scandal, how it was taken in the world and the impact of the case on business and reputation of the organization. This assignment is concluded with some recommendations, which can help the organization to conduct the business ethically without compromising with the generation of the revenue or hindering any kind of growth and development.
II. Introduction
Nowadays, most of the multinational organizations are engaged in corporate social responsibility. This is because fulfilling corporate social responsibilities is a way for the large organization to contribute towards the society as well as it helps in developing the brand image. The highly competitive global market often tests the business ethics of the multinational organizations. They have to decide between welfare of their own organization and the welfare of the whole society. In most of the cases, organizations choose their own profit, which result in taking decisions, which are unethical.
The scandal of Volkswagen in 2015 again raises the alarm that multinational companies with big brand name and reputation also chose their benefit over welfare of the society (Barrett et al., 2015). These companies have only one aim, which is their own growth and development, for this they can comfortably take unethical decisions or conduct business unethically. Volkswagen is a big organization whose scandal raises many questions, one such questions is the way; big organizations can still take decisions, which can damage the environment despite knowing the current environmental condition.

Background of the Case
As mentioned by Mansouri (2016), In September 2015, the United States environment protection agency issues the notice against the Volkswagen group under the clean air act. It has been seen that the organization had conducted the fraud to clear their cars in the lab test by installation of the software, which limits the emission made by diesel engine. The intention behind the installation of the software is controlling of the emission in the lab test period only. As mentioned by Russell, Gates, Keller and Watkins (2016), this software was not efficient to work on the road.
When these tested cars released on the road, they become responsible for damaging the environment twice. This is because it releases the forty times high amount of nitrous oxide from the permissible amount in the country. All these cars resulted in damaging the environment as air is highly polluted by the smoke released from these cars and resulted in risking the health of the people of America....
