For the most part, church and state are separate in the United States, meaning that the government cannot impose a particular religion on the people. Some believe that the separation of church and state goes too far and that God and the worship of God are being pushed out of our culture altogether. Others believe that the separation of church and state does not go far enough, and that governmental leaders push their religion on citizens. One area of constant debate is prayer in schools.
