Power shapes our daily life and our sense of self. According to Foucault, our sense of self is produced through various regimes of power connected to particular social sites, such as schools and hospitals. Teachers tell us what is good; doctors tell us what is normal. We are socialized to internalize these definitions and create a self that originates outside our selves.
