Task Outline
For this assignment your task is to customise your copy of Fedora Linux. As you have seen in the workshop, it is possible to customise Linux extensively. For your assignment you should consider the following areas of customisation:
· Modifications to Linux shell such as aliases and changes to .bashrc or similar configuration files
· Changes to Gnome such as editing options on built-in components like Terminal or Orca
· Changes to Gnome using configuration tools such as Gnome Tweak Tools
· Downloading and installing Gnome Shell extensions
· Adding accessibility features or adaptations
· Advanced customisation requiring detailed configuration or scripting
You don't have to do all of these elements - they are examples of what is possible. It is expected that all students will do some customisation of the Bash shell. To achieve high marks you will be expected to research your own adaptations and go beyond the options covered in the lab session.
Documentation and Evidence
You should write a brief report explaining the customisation you have accomplished. For each adaptation you should explain:
· What you did
· What the benefit of the change is for you
· If appropriate a reference to the instructions you used
· Some evidence of the change such as a screenshot for a graphical change or a listing of a configuration file for a textual change
Marking Criteria
This assignment will be marked using the following criteria:
1. Extent of customisation
2. Difficulty and complexity of the changes made
3. Justification and discussion of the changes
4. Quality of the written report
Items 3 and 4 will be marked according to the standard assessment regulations for HE4 which are available in theModule Handbook.
