Title:Lab Report
Deadline:Draft deadline for feedback 28 October 2019 at 4:00 pm
Element Number1 of 6
Weighting16.7%

This page gives you specific instructions for this element of the portfolio. It should be read in conjunction with the full assignment brief insection 15 of the module guide

An important skill in technical subject areas is to write up the details of a practical session. This allows you to explain what you have found out and also allows others to repeat your work. The format of a lab report is fairly standardised. Your report should contain the following sections:

  • Title

  • Abstract

  • Introduction

  • Materials and Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • References

Briefly the sections should contain the following:

Title

A short and interesting summary of your lab session

Abstract

Written last! This is a brief description of what you did and what you found out. The abstract is often the only thing readers have to go on when they decide whether or not to ready your report. Think of it as advertising for your report.

Introduction

Briefly introduce the main idea of the lab session. Try to convey why someone would find it interesting.

Materials and Methods

The materials and methods section allows someone else to repeat your work. You should detail the environment, equipment and or software you used for the work and the steps you took to accomplish your goals.

Results

Show what happened during the activity. Tables of figures if appropriate, or screenshots of important steps should be reproduced here. This is the section where you explain what happened.

Discussion

Finally talk through the results you found - did they meet the objectives? Did they tie in with other people's findings? What did you learn?

References

Using standard Harvard Referencing, report any sources you have used in the lab.

Your task

Your task is to write up a lab report on second part of today's workshop:Thrashing the RAM.You do not need to include writing up how to install the virtual machine.

Write an experimental lab report using the headings given above. You must report real results. During the workshop install - record the steps and take screenshots and/or note the results where appropriate.

Marking Criteria

The report will be marked according to the standard HE4 assessment criteria as set out in yourmodule guide. The criteria will be weighted as follows:

  • Relevance (20%)

  • Knowledge (20%)

  • Argument and Analysis (20%)

  • Structure (10%)

  • Written English (10%)

  • Presentation (10%)

  • Research/Referencing (10%)

TITLE : - THRASING THE RAM
This workshop is a deliberate exercise to see what happens when we use more RAM than the computer has available. This can occur minutes before the effect of any interaction, including remote connections. I
t means if any program misbehaves or simply needs more memory than available, it is impossible to stop it, either locally or remotely. It can be an annoyance and a security threat.
Abstract :-
In this we will try to get to know that what happens we have less RAM as compared to our usage. We will try to get the situation by altering the either script or number of requests per unit time where we end up having less RAM as compared with the given RAM of the computer.
So after doing all the experiment set up starting by installing Apache and then for testing we started by editing our python script in text editor i.i. gedit here. For calculation we repeated our experiment multiple time with different concurrent values .Starting with 10 requests per time, we calculated our main result i.e. max time and mean time where max time tells us about the maximum time take by the server to complete the process and mean time gives us the average time required to complete the setup. After calculating for 10 requests per time we move towards 20 request per time and so on .Every time we increase our concurrent value from 10 to 100we can see the change the in max and mean time values. Its increases by increasing the concurrent value. So after sometime we get that concurrent value for which max time is greater than the RAM of the provided system.
So it can be concluded that every time we increase our concurrent time value i.e. number of requests per second there will be increase in mean and max time and at the end we get that value of concurrent time for which the value will be greater than the given RAM value of our system .
Introduction:-
In this we will try to find what happens if we use RAM more than the our system has available. It is not hard to make a system go into thrashing, especially if it is low on memory .With only 1GB RAM, thrashing can occur as easily as running both Chromium and the Resynthesizer plugin at the same time in the GIMP. Running these programs plus another memory-intensive program like Mathematical can generate thrashing even when 2GB or 4GB of physical memory are...
