Format: Please submit the Literature / Artefact Review in a text based format with the appropriate and relevant illustrations in clear reproduction.   Please save your submission as a word doc. or docx. file, or as a pdf. Structure of a literature review Introduction Your introduction should give an outline of · why you are writing a review, and why the topic is important · the scope of the review — what aspects of the topic will be discussed · the criteria used for your literature selection (e.g.. type of sources used, date range) · the organisational pattern of the review. Body paragraphs Each body paragraph should deal with a different theme that is relevant to your topic. You will need to synthesise several of your reviewed readings into each paragraph, so that there is a clear connection between the various sources. You will need to critically analyse each source for how they contribute to the themes you are researching. The body could include paragraphs on: · historical background · methodologies · previous studies on the topic · mainstream versus alternative viewpoints · principal questions being asked · general conclusions that are being drawn. Conclusion Your conclusion should give a summary of: · the main agreements and disagreements in the literature · any gaps or areas for further research · your overall perspective on the topic. Checklist for a literature review Have I: · outlined the purpose and scope? · identified appropriate and credible (academic/scholarly) literature? · recorded the bibliographical details of the sources? · analysed and critiqued your readings? · identified gaps in the literature and research? · explored methodologies / theories / hypotheses / models? · discussed the varying viewpoints? · written an introduction, body and conclusion? · checked punctuation and spelling?   Marking criteria: · Relevance of chosen literature and/or artefacts · Coherence and clarity of the arguments · Critical engagement with texts and/or artefacts · Academic writing and referencing conventions THIS IS PART 2( to be do later) -Research Proposal IMPORTANT: This course has hard deadlines. Late work will not be accepted and will receive zero (except under exceptional circumstances - read the course assessment policies on learnonline for more information). All requests for extensions must go through learnonline and be accompanied by documentation (e.g. a medical certificate, access plan, counsellor letter) and extensions must be applied for before the assessment deadline. Please send the request to your discipline coordinator.   IMPORTANT: Each discipline has its own deadline for this task (this is due to each discipline having its own schedule and different starting dates). Please note the deadline for your discipline below. It is your responsibility to adhere to the deadline for your discipline. The deadline listed in the table above in the course outline is for the earliest discipline deadline and all other groups will be given a group extension to the date listed below. Objectives: The research proposal incorporates all three course objectives by (a) demonstrating an understanding of different research methods and their practical applications (b) demonstrating the skills and knowledge needed to initiate and carry out small research projects in art, craft, design, planning, and architecture, and (c) demonstrating an understanding of the relationship between visual culture and research, from the position of the individual emerging practitioner. Format Please submit the research proposal in a text based format with the appropriate and relevant illustrations in clear reproduction.   Please save your submission as a word doc. or docx. file, or as a pdf.   You must include the following sections: 1. Title page (Title of project, student name, ID, and discipline) 2. Abstract (up to 200 words) 3. Introduction (contextual/background information, setting the scene, rationale, aims and objectives, brief summary of literature, etc.) 4. Research questions 5. Literature and/or artefact review (From your previous assignment - for reference only. It is not included in word count and will notbe assessed.  It is not expected to be updated since the last submission). 6. Methods and Methodology 7. Research timeline 8. Ethical considerations (if applicable) 9. References (not included in word count) 10. Appendices (if applicable, not included in word count)   You should divide the word count up for each section as suits your project, however the abstract must not be over 200 words. Historical Background
As stated by Capps, Bentsen and Ramirez (2016), urbanization refers to the shift of population from rural areas to urban areas. Urbanization began during the stage of industrial revolution, when people moved towards urban areas in search of job opportunities. With the increase in the rate of urbanization, the pressure on environment has increased immensely. According to Fang, Liu and Li (2016), by 2014, around 54% of the world was urbanized and the United Nations expect that around 66% of the population will be urbanized by 2050. This has led to arousal of a number of environmental issues, which hampers the quality of life in urban areas. Urbanization stated long back when prosperous villages attracted the attention of local tribal. This process led to increase in population density of developed areas. However, in the modern times, people believe the quality of life to be superior in urban areas. In addition to that, presence of job opportunities attracts public from less developed areas or villages.
As noted by Bhaskar et al. (2016), the main reasons for organization are better employment facilities, medical facilities, higher education, entertainment, sports and others. However, the major problems associated to urbanization are sewage problems, water pollution, air pollution, overcrowding, over exploitation of natural resources and unusual rise in temperature. Overcrowding in the urban areas leads to increase in solid waste disposal, which is very difficult to treat. In addition to that, construction of huge buildings affects the flow of air in the urban area. As commented by Salmon et al. (2016), the industries and vehicles in such areas release greenhouse gases and other air pollutants, which degrades the quality of air in the atmosphere.
Although there are more medical facilities in urban areas, but the low quality air and water leads to increasing number of diseases in urban areas. Sewage problems, development of slums and other issues affect the quality of life of urban dwellers negatively. As noted by Chen et al. (2017), disposal of waste is also an issue in such areas, which leads to improper dumping of waste in nearby areas. This affects the quality of land in the nearby areas. In addition to that, urbanization requires construction of new spaces for accommodation purpose. Deforestation is being done to meet the increasing demands for housing, which again affects the quality of environment.
