QUESTION #1: Topic 1: Electronic Monitoring
Electronic monitoring is a type of digital confinement that usually takes the form of an ankle "shackle” or wrist bracelet. This can track a person's whereabouts, as well as their breath and blood alcohol content. Breathalyzer monitors, Passive or Active GPS tracking, or radio frequency monitoring, are common monitoring methods (Hucklesby & Holdsworth, 2020). Satellites are used in active GPS tracking to transmit and triangulate position data at predetermined intervals. Every hour, Breathalyzer monitors measure sweat and give a blood alcohol content data.
Electronic surveillance, according to a class-action complaint, is extortion (Xavier, Felizardo & Alves, 2021). Monitoring might make it difficult for probationers and parolees to find work or further their education. Even the Center for Media Justice has called for an end to monitoring in part because of this. Since, data from electronic surveillance devices frequently finds up in a database controlled by the commercial company and state.
QUESTION #2: Topic 2: Restitution
Restitution makes criminals partially or completely responsible for the financial damages sustained by victims of their crimes. In both criminal and administrative courts, restitution is usually ordered to reimburse victims for out-of-pocket expenditures incurred as a direct result of a crime (Paik, 2020). Community service, on the other hand, is frequently employed as a substitute for jail and is intended to link criminals to the victim or society so that they learn how their actions affect others.
Community service has many of the same advantages as restitution and it can help an offender modify his or her values. For many people, completing a community service court order is the first time they have done something constructive for society over a long span of time. Community service instead of addressing the needs of an individual victim, it allows criminals to repay the community as a whole (Ruback, Knoth, Gladfelter & Lantz, 2018).
QUESTION #3: Unit 6 Assignment: Community-Based Programs
Types of Community-Based Programs
Programs for Parental Education
Social workers feel that by assisting and teaching low-income parents, they may address a variety of social issues at the most fundamental level.
Programs for Public Health
The public health program is the most widely used community-based intervention. These programs might be tailored to a specific population or focus on general health and fitness.
Programs for education
Education has a significant influence on both income and unemployment rates, as evidenced by objective statistics. Individual and organizational well-being is inextricably linked.
Programs for Prevention
If the atmosphere and circumstances are right, social workers may design society-based interventions that promote social change through prevention.
Purpose
Social workers feel that by assisting and teaching low-income parents, they may address a variety of social issues at the most fundamental level. Low-income parents are more likely to be socially isolated and frustrated at work (or during the job hunt), which has a detrimental impact on their childhood development. The welfare system is strained by parents who are unable to obtain and keep work (Shirinzadeh, Afshin-Pour, Angeles, Gaber & Agarwal, 2019).
The public health program is the most widely used community-based intervention. These programs might be tailored to a specific population or focus on general health and fitness. The COPD community and the HIV/AIDS community are two examples (Scott et al., 2018). Physical exercise and weight loss are frequently promoted among adolescents and adults through school and workplace health initiatives. The structure of the intervention is as broad as the range of health problems addressed by these programs. The optimal technique for engaging individuals in their settings will be determined by thorough study.
Individual and organizational well-being is inextricably linked. These interventions include accelerated learning programs, achievement tracking, primary skills curriculum, vocational training and dropout prevention programs, to name a few. Many of these initiatives try to distract youngsters from crime-related activities in high-risk regions, in addition to academic advancement.
Sometimes social workers will create society-based interventions that promote social change by preventing it. This form of intervention aims to discourage specific behaviours rather than increase a group's access to a resource. The manner, in which these programs are disseminated to the public, is very dependent on the features of the region and people. In order for a program to handle an issue effectively, it must typically identify and eliminate any unanticipated elements.
Similarities and Differences
Healthy People 2010 targets were achieved in large part thanks to community-based initiatives and methods. They are intended for persons who do not have access to regular health care. Schools, workplaces, health care institutions and communities are examples of these types of environments. Programs that use multiple—if not all four—settings have a higher impact than those that merely use one (Ceptureanu, Ceptureanu, Luchian & Luchian, 2018).
Health and quality of life are influenced by a variety of community institutions and elements, not only a well-functioning health-care system. Many people's health may be improved by making changes inside current...
