Assignment 1: Due date: 08/26/2020 By definition, a graduate-level research paper provides a discussion of the content in the scholarly article from peer-reviewed sources where research was performed using relevant keywords. Do a research on the UMGC library for scholarly articles related to the below question, and then answer the below question. Answer the below questions by providing 150 words for each. 2) Describe the importance of denormalization as part of data warehouse design (150 words). 3) Review the key roles involved in the design of a dimensional model such as data modeler, business analyst, business intelligence application developer, data steward, ETL developer, database administrator, security manager, data warehouse administrator. Select a role and define the tasks that this person performs (150 words). 4) Identify the importance of selecting the Grain of a data warehouse in the Kimball Data Warehouse Model. Provide examples of grains within a Data Warehouse (150 words). 7) Compare and contrast the models used for developing a data warehouse for unstructured data versus structured data (150 words). 8) Define the importance of ontologies for unstructured data warehouses. Provide an example of unstructured data and the use of an ontology used to manage this data (150 words). 9) Define the importance of indexes for unstructured data warehouses. Provide an example of unstructured data and the indexes that you would define to manage this data (150 words). 10) Identify design decisions that must be made as part of the ETL process. Describe the importance of these design decisions (150 words). Grading rubric: · APA formatting of each question including citations and references is worth 10 points. One point off for each error. · Each scholarly article from peer-reviewed sources from the UMGC library is worth two points for a maximum of 8 points. · Content relevant to each question is worth 10 points. Distinguished (10), Advanced (8), Proficient (6), Basic (4), or Unacceptable (2). · Question length between 100 and 150 words for the Content is worth 9 points, met (9) or unmet (0). The References section is not included in the word count. · Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar are worth 9 points. One point off for each error. Warning: Wikipedia and sites such as blogs are not scholarly sources and will result in a zero grade for APA citation and references. You should use the UMGC library to perform graduate-level research for scholarly articles from peer-reviewed sources. Therefore, use only references from the UMGC library for all research in this assignment. This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin; therefore, similarity index should be less than 10%. 2) Describe the importance of denormalization as part of data warehouse design (150 words).
The non-standardized data warehouse strategy is use to increase functionality of the database infrastructure. Denormalization calls redundant information to norm
alized data warehouse to decrease the running time of a particular database query that combines data from multiple tables into one table. Remember, never mistake denormalized database for a database that has never been normalized. The data warehouse is the operating environment in life (Eshuis & Kumar, 2016). The data extracted from the source enters the warehouse inventory at the point of extraction. The system must follow the warehouse rules when deleting files to extract the warehouse. The data is transformed according to the algorithms required by the warehouse. It is loaded from these sources and stored according to DW rules. It is also stored in one or more storage locations according to warehouse rules. The data warehouse is any location or technology.
3) Review the key roles involved in the design of a dimensional model such as data modeler, business analyst, business intelligence application developer, data steward, ETL developer, database administrator, security manager, data warehouse administrator. Select a role and define the tasks that this person performs (150 words).
Database administrator: The major job of database administrator (DBA) is to make sure that data is present, protected from loss or damage, and can be easily accessed as required. DBAs usually collaborate on the initial installation and configuration of SQL Server, new Oracle moreover other databases (Eshuis & Kumar, 2016). The system administrator sets up the hardware or deploys the OS for database server, and then DBA installs database software as well as configures it for use. Because of the requirement for patches and updates, the DBA will handle this ongoing maintenance. DBAs use special software to organize and store data. This role might include capacity planning, configuration, installation, database design, performance monitoring, migration, safety, troubleshooting, and data recovery and backup.
The responsibilities of a database administrator can include the following tasks:
· Install and upgrade application tools and database server
· Allocate system storage or plan the storage needs of database system
· Modify the database structure according to the data provided by application developer as needed
· Register users as well as maintain system safety
· Make sure compliance with database vendor’s license agreements
· Monitor and Control user access to database
4) Identify the importance of selecting the Grain of a data warehouse in the Kimball Data Warehouse Model. Provide examples of grains within a Data Warehouse (150 words).
The granularity accurately determines what an only fact table row represents. The grain declaration becomes binding contract by design (Kozhevnikov et al., 2018). The particle should be declared before selecting the size or fact, because each candidate size and fact should be consistent with particle. This consistency achieves uniformity in each dimensional design, which is serious to the performance moreover ease of use of BI applications. Atomic granularity refers to...
