This assignment is about the importance of gaining credibility within an organisation by demonstrating your understanding of the concepts and using the language of managerial leadership. RMIT Classification: Trusted Assessment Details This assessment task comprises six questions that you are required to answer in a written format, as part of your preparation for a potential upcoming job or promotion interview. Write your answers as if you are preparing ahead of time for an interview and want to increase your chances of knowing what to say by spending time sorting out what you know and putting that knowledge into writing. In other words, do not write your answers as if you are sitting in front of a selection panel and talking. Your writing will, therefore, be as formal as it was for the first assignment. These are the questions you are required to answer, in written form, as preparation for an upcoming job or promotion interview: 1. Your application indicated that you participated in personality training as a part of the MBA program. Based on the results of your personality test, what do you think are the strengths and limitations of your personality type in relation to effective leadership and management of the organisation? how do you plan to overcome the limitations? 2. This is a high-performance work setting where we must overcome obstacles and setbacks to achieve the desired business outcomes. Often, this means that members of senior management may adopt a demanding and confrontational style. When such situations arise, what will be your response? how would you manage the situation? 3. We are in the process of expanding our business operations from Australia to China. How might national culture prove to be communication barrier for our company’s representatives from Melbourne? What would you do to overcome the cross-cultural communication barriers? 4. We believe that effective communication is essential to influence others in a positive way. Can you elaborate your approach to influence someone in a more senior role than yours to ensure that your recommendations for business improvement are implemented? 5. We have been struggling to motivate a group of employees who work in our Research and Innovation Department, despite giving them a 10 per cent salary increase! As a team leader, what would you do to improve their level of motivation, and why you think that approach will make a difference? 6. Innovation is critical for our business growth and success, but we are behind our competitors in this area. What are your suggestions for improving creativity and innovation at work? Cross-cultural communication is the ability to successfully cultivate, improve and build relationships with people from diverse cultures. It is based on the manners, beliefs, decision-making methods, social structure and perspectives of different cultures, as well as the manner, in which group members communicate — in person, verbally or nonverbally, or in writing. Both people would have some knowledge or awareness of the norms or conventions that exist in the other's culture for understanding to occur.
It is critical that people recognise the possible challenges of cross-cultural communication and make a conscious effort to solve them. It is also critical to accept that one's efforts will not always be effective and adapt one's expectations accordingly. As mentioned by Kasztelnik and Brown (2019), employees, who are creative, can help the company thrive by looking for new solutions to challenges, increasing sales opportunities and differentiating products and services from those of competitors.
