Assignment #8: The Personal Portfolio w/LinkedIn Account. Due: Week 14. You are aware of what a portfolio is supposed to provide. Think of the skills, talents and accomplishments that you have in your employment arsenal. Carefully choose the words that you use in your portfolio. Make sure that there are no grammar errors. Make the reader want to know more about you. Remember that a portfolio is like a resume but has so much more potential in whatever career field you may enter. The resume is a formal document whereas a portfolio on LinkedIn is more of a personal calling card, a written summary of “you”. This collection of skills, accomplishments, work experience and on-going academics is what employers look to when searching for new candidates. This account needs to be professional in appearance and content. Your Linkedin Account can open many doors as well as provide you with a source of contacts to communicate with. Spend some time reading existing LinkedIn Accounts. Look up the accounts of friends, family or individuals that you would like to use as examples of how to structure your account and what information to include. Take a look at the LinkedIn Accounts that your professors have posted. Take a look at the Alumni Section. There are individuals listed there that are more than willing to help you in your career search. _____________________________________________________________________________ Part A: Your Personal LinkedIn Account This creates a place where peers and potential employers can learn more about you. Hopefully, you will see results from what you have written. Be proud of what you have accomplished. Your Introduction: Your Headline w/Professional Portrait . About You: Your Personal Profile w/goals, intentions. Your Background: Work Experience, education, Licenses and Volunteer Experiences. Your Skills and Endorsements Your Accomplishments including Certificates of Appreciation. Additional Information Your Interests/Hobbies/Associations. Part B: This Assignment has a Separate Written Component. Instructions: Prepare a Document following the headings listed below. These Sections are a repeat of work you have already done this term. Your Personal Profile: This part you have already complete in the LinkedIn Profile. You do not need to repeat this. Please make sure that your profile is not in the first person. Your Values: This is a section where you can expand on your personal values, where they came from and how they motivate you. We have discussed this in class, too. Review that assignment as you prepare this part of the assignment. Your Strengths and Weaknesses for Improvement: Remember the S.W.O.T. exercise? Identify those strengths and weaknesses. Don’t worry about the opportunities and threats. Be detailed in your writing. Identify and explain. You should have lots to say in this section. Your Learning Styles Assessment: This is an interesting section of a portfolio. Here is where you assess your personal learning style. We did have a few discussions on this topic as I attempted to learn just what all of your styles were. Each of you has a unique learning style. Again, there should be lots to say in this section. Your Commentary: To me, this is like a conclusion to a well-structured essay or report. In this section, you should be providing your own take on all of the above material. Remember that this is the last thing the reader reads. They say that first impressions are key. Well, so are last impressions. What you write here will provide a lasting impression. Part B of the assignment needs to be typed, double-spaced and should be 2+ pages in length, not including the cover page. Be descriptive. Draw on what your previous assignments have taught you. I do not want you to copy the text from your earlier assignments. Create new explanations and comments. I expect to see some changes between what you wrote earlier in the term and your writing at the end of the term. ___________________________________________________________________ This assignment needs to be submitted in Week 14 by 6:00 pm.
