    Hi Kristen, after going through your post my understanding of qualitative research has increased manifolds. I agree with you on the point that qualitative research can be considered as a descriptive approach to develop an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon under study. In my opinion, qualitative research helps to provide realistic data gathered through human participants and therefore shall help to gain an in-depth understanding of the research topic. I agree with you on the point that sample size is one of the most prominent indicators of a qualitative research. There is no doubt about the fact that the data collection technique is another important aspect, which indicates whether a research is qualitative or not (Whittemore, Chase & Mandle, 2001).
