In the story, "Hills like White Elephants" the white elephant is profusely used as a metaphor that implies to unborn child. As the curtain of the story opens, protagonist of the story comments that the surrounding hills looks appears to be like white elephants. The girl is contemplating whether she should conceive the child or have an abortion. Her thought process changes as she explains initially the mountain appeared to be white elephants however later she explains how lovely these mountain appears to be.
