Introduction
The pathway that digital platform has creat
ed in the recent era is very massive and can be very well depicted by the enquiry in the digital platform on the supply of news and journalistic content showing the digital content aggregation in the advertising service markets about the media content creators, advertisers and consumers. The rapid change in the consumer purchasing behaviour and the business venture has seen a drastic improvisation with the introduction of the digital platform, which has become a boon for the society.
Key Ethical and Economic Issues Raised in Digital Platforms Inquiry Report
(i) Issues
There has always been a significance implication and consequence of the business model of digital platform, which is very aptly shown in the inquiry issue of ACCC in Australia (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, 2019). In Australia, a wide range of question has been asked showing the issue related to privacy policy with anti-competitive conduct in digital platforms and the disparity related to copyright issues. The issues generated have main focus on the impact of digital platform on the choice and quality of news and journalism.
The main issues highlighted was that firstly how rapid increase in digital platform has enabled management and processing of massive data in our age, as of how digital platform is acting as a market power for the business. Secondly, how digital platform can be used as a consumer and competitive regulator using right tools to build up a massive empire of e-business and grow in digital marketing perspective (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, 2019). Third question was, as due to the disparity in the regulations due digital platform has an unequal competitive advantage. Fourth question was related to how digital platform is subjected to copyright issues, about its practicality and are the digital platform subject to journalism’s code of conduct. Moreover, the final fifth question is related to the impact of digital platform on society (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, 2019).
The inquiry in the digital platform like Facebook and Google has helped to under the influence thorough digital search engines, and the analysis of the data. The main focus was to understand what standard of behaviour this digital platforms are meeting with inter- related business including small and big businesses as well and how the platform are building market powers for consumers, media content writers and advertisers (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, 2018). The ACCC proposed of looking in the impact of information asymmetry and the long term growing trend and the technological changes brought in the competitive environment to bring competency in the individual market and organization.
(ii) Analysis
It has been analysed from the report that the focus was on the area that how digital platform such as Facebook and Google are becoming a very important part of technological and cultural changes and has a massive impact on the consumers. The media market required a careful consideration on the impact of such platforms.
