Q.1. What is Kaizen? Why Leyland has implemented a practice of Continuous Improvement?
Answer :Kaizen is a Japanese productivity philosophy which means good change. It help to organize everything with a constant, continuous and improved mindset to apply anywhere at the job. It is an continuous improvement that happens by slow and steady changes The five principles of Kaizen is know the customer, let it flow, understand the importance of leadership, empower people and be transparent.Leyland has implemented a practice continuous improvement aiming for the long term incremental change in collective culture. Everyone was able to put in their views and appropriate ideas to meet the production and sales growth plan. Other reasons for improvising continuous improvement are to stay ahead of the competition, to meet customer demand for more reliable trucks, to offset labor cost by more efficient production and to protect jobs in the UK.
Q.2. How is Kaizen, as a business strategy, expected to help Leyland Trucks to increase its market share?
Answer. Kaizen, as a business strategy will Leyland to meet the production ans sales growth plan, stay ahead of the competition, to meet customer demand for more reliable trucks, to offset labor cost by more efficient production and to protect jobs in the UK. The event brings together operator, owner, manager to discuss possible improvement. Improvement ideas from different level will give better results of involved decision making.
Q.3. How does Leyland Trucks measure its continuous improvement? Can you suggest KPIs for another type of business organisation e.g. a retailer or a leisure centre? Comment on how the four outcomes of HR support the strategic intent.
Leyland measures its continuous improvement by the themes of meeting deadlines, productivity from a given resource in a given time period, target to make number of defects to zero, financial cost, tracking on the quantity of stock held in inventory and accidents in the company. Another sign of improvement is Six Sigma which measures the quality of the product that attempts for near perfection.
KPI for business organization (retailer) are total sales( , gross margin return on investment, average transaction value, customer retention rate, conversion rates, digital traffic and inventory turnover ratio.
The HR support the continuous improvement by-
· Training everyone- identifying new ways how people can contribute to improvement by eliminating errors and waste.
· Involving everyone from top management to bottom level in decision making.
· Empowering by giving responsibility and power to everyone in the organization.
· Encouraging everyone to innovation - think of, communicate and try new ideas.
Q.4.Why is continuous improvement most likely to be achieved in a company with a culture of trust? Start your answer by explaining what is meant by a culture of trust?
Trust is a powerful leadership skill. Leaders who have trust of their employees are able to succeed to bring the change that impact the performance of the organization. Trust building starts at the top level management and requires a candid and transparent approach. Continuous improvement is likely to be achieved in the company with a culture of trust. Leyland culture relies on a set of values and translate these values into actions. These value needs trust as there is day to day sharing of ideas between team members. To share ideas, one needs to have faith and trust on the other employee. The actions also involves weekly briefing where team leaders inform members of new developments, issues, problem and successes, quarterly letters for all the employees, teamwork sessions, celebrating achievement of individuals and teams in every three months and whole team lead by the managing director every six months.

Sustainability refers to meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs. Adopting to sustainability whether large or small have a significant impact in the long run. Primarily. Sustainability in 21st century is self sufficient. Renewable resources and not polluting the environment gives us the power to manage a sustainable energy system. This will help us to preserve for future generations. Sustainability maintain health and non renewable resources of the society. It supports the well being of the individuals and society by promoting a better economy with less waste and pollution, few emission, more job and a better allocation of wealth. Business sustainability aims at coordinating and managing social, financial and environmental demands and to ensure a ethical, responsible and ongoing success. A company can build a sustainable business by belief and standing still to embrace the change, create value proposition and excelling in an area.
