Speech 3 Proposal Speech 3 Proposal Due Sunday by 11:59pm Points 2 Submitting a file upload Available after Oct 14 at 8am Submit Assignment Speech 3 Proposal Assignment This proposal will be much like the previous two. However, since Speech 3, the Informative Speech, introduces research, we have to consider new factors, such as how to assemble the best information and how to determine what qualifies as necessary information. Therefore, after addressing the usual six steps (context, audience, general purpose, etc.) you will work your way through some additional questions. Remember, this should be an essay. The additional steps are meant to get you thinking about what information you will need for a rich informative speech that can teach the audience something new. Starting early is important because you need to be thinking about your research plan—i.e., how you will go about finding that information—before you can do the research. At this point in the Speech 3 process, I am okay with explanations about the type of research you think you’ll need to do and why. For example, you can explain what types of sources you will look for and where you will be looking for material. You should be specific, though. Do you have a preferred database? Do you know what types of journals you should be looking in? As you write, then, try to make distinctions such as “I will use such-and-such databases to look for information about . . .” Note: Just because a source is in the library database does not make it instantly credible. Here is s numbered list of the things you need in your proposal, starting with the six steps usually required at the proposal stage and four additional steps: 1. speech context 2. audience 3. general purpose 4. topic 5. specific purpose 6. working thesis 7. types of research you will use to get that information and why 8. most likely resources 9. organizational strategy/pattern Note: Do not respond with a numbered list. You should write an essay. Speech 3 Proposal is due by Sunday, October 20 at 11:59 pm. Use the drop box on WebCampus.
