Though depression is so widely experienced, it is still often misunderstood. This common lack of understanding can lead people to think a depressed person could (and should) just “snap out of it.” They can’t. Depression is much deeper, long-lasting, and personally impacting than emotions, moods, and even personalities. It is of crucial importance, for both individuals and entire societies, to learn what depression actually is and how it can best be treated.
