Please choose one of the following topics:
1. Heat-related illness in a warming world
2. Ectopic pregnancy
3. Organ transplantation.
Your essay must be at least 4 pages in length, with a separate cover page and a separate page(s) of references.
The majority of your citations/references must come from scientific journals or reputable sources. I will accept articles from Mayo Clinic, CDC, other US government sources such as NOAA, NIH, USDA etc.
Your essay should reference major problems associated with the topic and how medicine treats/deals with those problems. You should also include information on how the USA as a society is dealing with issues associated with the topic. Remember, medicine and health are not isolated from society. I want you to think hard about these things. Also, include solutions if possible. For example, deaths from heat-related illnesses are increasing. Should employers be forced to provide safer working conditions? Would it be safer for construction workers to work at night rather than in the afternoon?
Your essay must have the following:
- A cover page with the essay title, your name, your class (Biol 2402 - ZUV01), and the semester
- An introduction with the heading - Introduction.
- The body of your essay should be broken up into paragraphs.
- A Conclusion with its own heading - Conclusion.
- A separate page headed References.
Citations and Referencesenable the reader to cross-check your work to make sure that your essay contains facts, not anecdotes or made-up "fake" material. This is one of the most important parts of ensuring scientific integrity and eliminating bias. None of you (I am pretty sure) have done any scientific research on any of the topics I have offered to you, so everything you write down has to be derived from someone else's work. Since you are using someone else's work you must acknowledge it. Below is an excerpt from a medical journal.
Heat stroke is a life-threatening injury requiring neurocritical care, and there have been at least 3332 deaths attributed to heat stroke from 2006 to 2010 in the USA [

Note that the excerpt includes 2 citations - indicated by the numbers in square brackets. The authors of the excerpt took data from other scientists, used it, and so had to cite it and then provide the full reference. This enables the reader to go to the original article and double-check that the citation was correct.
