Assessment Description. The purpose of this assessment is to foster students ability to coherently reflect on their undertaking of the Capstone: Strategy subject together with a reflection on their entire MBA. Assessment Instructions You are required to look back at their MBA course as a whole and identify the specific skills developed that will assist them in becoming effective practitioners in the workplace. Learning is a persistent change in performance or potential that results from experience and interaction. Reflective learning is the process of stepping back from the experience and reflecting on how skills, attitudes, mindset and behaviours have evolved. Your reflective essay must cover the following: • Introduction. • A brief discussion on the value of relective practice for managers and leaders • A personal reflection on learnings from the capstone subject and consultancy research process. • A personal reflection on skills developed over the MBA. • A personal reflection on how these will assist in future career endeavours. • Conclusions. • References. The reflective essay should include discussion of learnings from both a theoretical and practical perspective. Additionally, insights from undertaking assessments and research, capstone lessons as well as group activities from this and other subjects over the duration of the course. Specific examples should be cited to support and justify all points. Value of Reflective Practice for Managers and Leaders
Reflective practice of leade
rship is an extremely important aspect of consideration for managers and leaders. In the reflective practice, the managers and leaders utilize their own self-awareness, behaviour and interactions for the purpose as well as source of learning. Through the practice of reflection, the leaders and management become capable of perceiving challenges and hinderances as learning opportunities, creating and developing stronger alliances with their employees and staffs, as well as experience a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction both in their personal and professional arenas. According to Novak, Breznik and Natek (2020), reflective practices inculcate the different elements of PERMA, which is an acronym for Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships (positive), Meaning and Accomplishments in leaders and managers. As a result of this practice, the employers experience happiness and wellbeing in a holistic manner. Reflective practice also helps leaders and managers adapt and accustom their roles and responsibilities depending on the various implications of the current situation. As a result of such a kind of perspective towards problems, the managers and leaders develop a solution focused, problem-solving approach. In addition to that, it enhances the process and techniques of critical thinking, which prove to be immensely valued qualities of managers and leaders.
Based on my understanding of the value of reflective practice for managers and leaders, it is absolutely fundamental in the process of the development of strategies as well as in maintaining an effective organisational culture. In addition to that, according to Atan and Mahmood (2019), reflective practice is essential in the process of learning and innovation. The core of reflective practice is emphasised on personal development, an aspect which is commonly disregarded in the management practice. However, personal reflection offers a manager or a leader with a choice of personal improvement and betterment, thereby making their management more effective. The managers who do not believe in reflection end up is being less responsive to the needs of the clients, employees and customers, thereby leading to problems such as poor performance, low team morale and internal struggle. In my opinion, managers and leaders who employ reflective practice in their management practices display ideal behaviour such as through personal responsibility, enhanced and informed understanding of a situation where there is reflection, critical thinking and assessment instead of blaming employees of lower rank for managerial lacking.
Reflective practice creates a broader perspective towards differences. According to Marinos Raitsevits (2021), managers and leaders who implement reflection as a part of their managerial style understand the value of differences and the positive impact it can have on the growth and development of an organisation. It also effectively reduces conflicts within teams when different teams are engaged in group work activities. It reduces the need for any mediation or other disciplinary practice for the purpose of resolving conflicts. Additionally, reflective practice fosters and promotes a growing mentality and a solution focused culture in an organisation.
