My undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis equipped me with a solid academic background in both Mathematics and Statistics. I have completed relevant courses, such as Probability, (STAT …). In addition, I have honed my technical skills in programming, such as Python, MATLAB, and SQL, through extensive project work.
For example, in a class I took on Linear Algebra, I applied the “Singular Value Decomposition” (SVD) basis classification algorithm to recognize handwritten digits in MATLAB. The SVD basis classification algorithm achieved a much higher accuracy than the traditional classification algorithm. By adapting the SVD basis classification model, US postal offices can minimize risk in the automatic process of reading zip codes on envelopes. Furthermore, while constructing a neural network in another course I took on machine learning, I got acquainted with knowledge of machine learning techniques, including artificial neural networks, decision tree learning, clustering and their pros and cons. I encountered several barriers, such as difficulty defining the initial values of Ordinary Differential Equation. Through working with Professor Puckett in this area, conducting research online, and reviewing relevant papers, I discovered that the most common solution for this is 4th Order Runge-Kutta. In the end, I combined the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg algorithm with the Euler method and developed them in Python. This method was best at addressing the initial value problem in the ODE.
The field of data science has witnessed exponential increase in demand for talent. My passion for Data Science helps me see the dataset and understand what it intends. It gives me great sense of confidence and motivation to follow the passion in analytics and machine learning. Not only have I developed my theoretical knowledge during my Data Science studies, but I also employed mathematical models to solve real-world problems. During my internship at SAS Software Co. Ltd., I applied SQL to organize and collect data about buyers, merchants, commodities, products, and purchasing channels. By building a Linear Regression model in MATLAB, I discovered that customers from different regions responded differently towards pricing...
