Perform a technically feasible design of a multiplume gas-sparged contactor for oxygenating waste water in a treatment facility given the following process specifications. The process requires oxygenating a 0.5-m3/s water stream (initially oxygen free) to an oxygen contentat a temperature of 20 ◦C. An existing on-site air line is to be employed as the oxygen source. A multiplume contactor [with a flow pattern (mixed–plug) identified in previous research, as shown in Figure P8.1] is to be used for the process. Critical design information can be found in Tilton and Russell (1982), which is summarized in the table that follows.
