Perform a dimensional analysis to determine the groups relating the variables that are important in determining the settling rate of very small solid particles falling in a liquid. Note that the driving force for moving the particles is gravity and the corresponding net weight of the particle. At very slow settling velocities, it is known that the velocity is independent of the fluid density. Show that this also requires that the velocity be inversely proportional to the fluid viscosity.
