To get full credit for the response, the paragraph should directly respond to each of the following 6 areas
1. Thesis: Articulate what you see as the thesis (the way in which the plays are thematically linked) so the writer can make sure the idea is being expressed clearly. Offer any suggestions to improve the thesis if necessary (improved focus or complexity).
2. Organizational framework (OF): (Go back toEffective Prewriting Lectureif you don't know what this is.) Comment on the OF as a whole - does it provide a clear overview of the main points that will be used to support the thesis? Could additional explanation be added? Does it need to be shortened?
3. Introductory elements: Is anything missing in the introduction based on the instructions given for the rough draft? Any information about the titles, dates of publication, or playwrights missing? Do you get a general sense of the plays and an understanding of the theme? Do you need more discussion of the concepts related to the thesis?
4. Body paragraphs: Are there clearly organized body paragraphs with topic sentences? Do the topic sentences need additional development or clarification? Are the body paragraph ideas clearly connected to the thesis, or do you need further development of how they support the overall claim? Can you suggest any additional main points that could further develop the thesis that haven't been included?
5. Evidence: Are there multiple examples from the plays to support each claim? Does the evidence seem well-related to the topic sentence? Are the body paragraphs showing synthesis (drawing evidence from across the plays to support the main idea, not just one play at a time)? Is there evidence that the writer is identifying any elements of drama (dialogue, movement, set, appearance)? Is there additional evidence you could suggest?
6. Format/Citation: Does the draft meet MLA guidelines for formatting? Is the dialogue included as evidence handled properly with quotations, page numbers in parentheses, and proper formatting for single-speaker or dialogue between characters? Is there a properly formatted Works Cited page? Is the document correctly paginated? What areas of the format need to be addressed?
