Paul is a 77-year-old male who recently lost his wife suddenly after she had a heart attack. They had been married for fifty-three years and had three kids together. Paul had a strong relationship with his wife, and he described them as soul mates. Paul reports that they still had so many plans together that they will never get to do. He thought they still had time together. Before his wife passed away, Paul was a vibrant person who enjoyed spending time with his family. He would frequently visit his grandkids and play with them at the park. He was a vital part of the family system and enjoyed his role as father and grandfather. Paul enjoyed telling stories about his past experiences and lessons learned throughout his life. He has a group of old friends that would meet at the VFW each week. Paul and his wife traveled frequently, volunteered in their community, and made the most of the additional time afforded to them in retirement. Paul was in good health with no significant medical complications, just typical health issues that would be common in someone in his age. However, since the passing of his wife Paul is sullen and withdrawn. His health has been declining; he refuses to take care of himself, does not eat or sleep well, and refuses to leave the house. Paul’s oldest daughter is daughter has been assisting with his daily activities. She has decided that it would be best for her father to come and live with her, her husband, and their two kids. Paul is outraged at the thought of leaving the home that he and his wife built together and does not want to do.
