Competency details BSBHRM509 Manage rehabilitation or return to work programs This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to process and analyse workers compensation and sick leave claims. It also covers the establishment of rehabilitation needs and return to work programs and their monitoring, review and evaluation. It applies to individuals who manage claims and ensure that the organisation provides appropriate support for the worker. Note: The terms 'occupational health and safety' (OHS) and 'work health and safety' (WHS) are equivalent and generally either can be used in the workplace. In jurisdictions where the Model WHS Legislation has not been implemented, Registered Training Organisations are advised to contextualise the unit of competency by referring to the existing State/Territory OHS legislative requirements. Assessment outline All assessment tasks must be completed successfully to pass the unit. Assessment task Word limit 1: Auto-mark quiz N/A 2: Portfolio of evidence - Workers compensation procedures and plan 1,700 + Evidence requirement 3: Portfolio of evidence - Implementation, monitoring and review of a return to work plan 1,300 There are three assessments of this unit: 1. answer quiz questions online 2. develop workers compensation procedures and a return to work plan for an injured employee 3. provide evidence of implementing, monitoring and reviewing the return to work plan for an injured employee You are required to complete these assessments with reference to the Le Delbrock Hotel Case Study provided in ‘Additional Resources’ or based on your own workplace. Instructions Once you feel confident that you have covered the learning materials for this unit, you are ready to attempt this assessment. Write your assessment in a commonly used software program such as Microsoft Word, or you can download a Microsoft Word copy of this assessment from the relevant study period of your course in OpenSpace. Assessment 3: Implementation, monitoring and review of a return to work plan Assessment description Provide evidence of implementing, monitoring and reviewing a workers compensation plan. Complete this task based on the Le Delbrock Hotel Case Study (see ‘Additional Resources’). As part of this task, you will need to read the Workers Compensation Policy for Le Delbrock (see ‘Additional Resources’). Your evidence must include each of the parts specified below. Part A Conduct a risk assessment on the suitable duties that you identified in your return to work plan Part B Construct an email to the department managers seeking approval for the return to work plan you have developed Part C Prepare a communication plan that shows how you will encourage and maintain ongoing communication and feedback between the relevant parties Part D Write a letter to an employee on a return to work plan notifying them of a breach of the plan and explaining the actions that will be taken as a result, including any modifications to the claim Part E Prepare a closure report for a return to work program Specifications Your evidence must include the following as a minimum: Part A – Risk assessment Conduct a risk assessment on the suitable duties that you identified in your return to work plan. Your assessment must include: · a description of the tasks · hazards · associated risks · existing risk controls · a risk rating · additional controls required · the risk rating with the additional controls. Your letter must include: · a description of the breach · details of the relevant workers compensation authority · the process to be implemented in the event of a breach · modifications that will be made to the return to work plan. (300 words) Additional information The injured employee has refused to attend physiotherapy as outlined in his return to work program ‘Commence physiotherapy as soon as support boot is removed on 18 November’. It is now 18 December and he has begun to complain of continued pain and difficulty moving his leg when seated for 2-4 hours when he finds himself in one place. Part E – Closure report Prepare a closure report for a return to work program. Your report must include: · details of the injured employee · details of the return to work program · the reason the program ceased · the outcome · details of any issues encountered during the program · pre-injury and post-injury duties · recommendations (these must take into account the timeframes of the rehabilitation, the success of the program and the costs and benefits to the organisation). (300 words) Additional information The injured employee attended the review appointment with Dr Kinsella on 6 January. After the consultation, the doctor provided an updated Workcover Medical Certificate and endorsed that the employee was now fit for pre-injury duties from the 6 January. The injured employee attended the workplace and provided you with the updated medical certificate and advised that he was now fully recovered and ready to undertake pre-injury duty.
