We have been looking at a lot of Ekphrastic poetry. For this assignment I want you to select a work of art and write an Ekphrastic poem about it. The work of art is your choice. It can be a painting, a sculpture, a memorial, a building, or a photograph taken by an artist. You cannot use family phowtos since they already have a story. Choice a work that makes you respond to it in some way and then try your hand at writing a poem.
I know for many of you this is a new experience. Do your best. I think you may surprise yourself. I feel it is good for those studying poetry to see what writing it is like. It isn’t easy, but if you pick something that inspires you as subject matter you may have an easier time.
The only restriction I ask is that the poem be a minimum of 14 lines. It can be as long as you like and you may focus it on what is physically there, or on what the work of art makes you feel. As you can see from different examples we have looked at, that there are many options. Look at some of the other poems posted below if you need some ideas.
