One’s face need is the sense of social value, which is experienced by undergoing interactions. In daily conversation language is used to either appeal to face need or to avoid meeting face needs. There are three types of face needs. They are: Fellowship face need, Autonomy face need, Competence face need. Fellowship face explains about a desire to be accepted, loved as well as cooperative.
As informed by Woolley, Autonomy face explains a desire to be controlled, responsible as well as independent. Competence face explains a desire to be intelligent, capable as well as accomplished. Among these three faces needs the most important can be suggested to be the Competence face need as it highlights as well as demand to be respected and viewed as competent and intelligent. It is the competent face need that provoke an individual to seek career in something they are good at and avoid embarrassing situation.
When a certain level of independency is required in any individual’s life, then in those specific circumstances the autonomy face is required and when individual need to have others to like them or accept them, in that situation fellowship face becomes important.
